How Did We get Here?

The civilian police force as we know it has grown in size, scope, and militarization over the course of the last 4 decades. The Police Forces across this nation have enjoyed the support they received from the majority population of the country who have turned a blind eye to the atrocities they have committed against black and minority individuals for generations. But, that’s why they supported them in the first place.

The Police Department of America’s roots lie in the position of overseer at a plantation. The force was meant to keep unruly slaves in line, keep them working their jobs, and keep them from damaging the property of the owners or the other white businessmen throughout the region they policed.

Today the Police Force has morphed into something that even it’s original creators may not have imagined.
